SteppingStone Curriculum
Group activities include street hockey (above), kickball and baseball. Each of the six weeks during the Extended School Year is planned around specific themes, pre-planned each spring. Curriculum activities integrate student IEP objectives into each activity. Special groups (Curious Creatures and Music Groups) or individual cabins produce a presentation for the entire facility to showcase skills reinforced on a daily basis. The daily schedule addresses areas of communication, ADL’s, academics, fine motor, gross motor and orientation and mobility activities.
The culminating activity occurs on Fridays during program wide cookouts. The Special Education Teachers and Therapists work together to plan these thematic units by working on IEP objectives by discipline. Students in each cabin contribute to the lunch offering by making either salads or desserts for all to share.
