Next Step Overview
The Next Step Program is designed to meet the needs of individuals between the ages of 18 and 22 who have a primary diagnosis of intellectual impairment (mental retardation). Most students participating in this program have previously participated in a modified high school program. The Next Step Program focuses on exploring and refining vocational skills, job placement, functional academics and social skills.
Program Location
Next Step is a community-based program with strong ties to Ipswich, Massachusetts. The program is accessible to restaurants, a laundromat and the commuter rail. This lends itself to easy integration of life skills and academic curricula.
Through this program, students develop a variety of skills that can lead toward maximum independence in adulthood. By keeping a low staff-to-student ratio, individual student needs can be addressed throughout all areas.
Entrance Criteria
- Must have district approval
