Teachers

Every public school (grades K-12) in Lawrence, Andover and Methuen participates in one or more GLEC's Enrichment programs. In addition the following schools participate in one or more Enrichment Programs: Bellesini Academy, St. Augustine School, St. Michael School, North Andover Middle School, and Silver Hill Horace Mann Charter School. Please see Enrichment Program “Participants” for a table of all the programs at all the schools.

Teachers, this is how your students can participate in one or more of GLEC’s Enrichment Programs. Please encourage your students to take advantage of these opportunities.

Ideas on how to use AppleSauce and AppleSeed in the classroom:

Gr. K- 8 classroom teacher GLEC Pen Pals Program Sign up your class Sept. 1 - Nov. 1. Students write & receive at least 4 rounds of letters, Nov- May. See who participated in GLEC Pen Pals in previous years.
Gr. 3 – 5 English, art, music teacher AppleSeed Literary Magazine Individuals submit to AppleSeed Magazine Advisor, who screens pieces and sends them on to us. Top pieces from each school are published. Each school gets 100 free copies for their own use.  Advisors have more information. See your school’s AppleSeed advisor.
Gr. 6 – 8 English, art, music teacher AppleSauce Literary Magazine Individuals submit to AppleSauce Magazine Advisor, who screens pieces and sends them on to us. Top pieces from each school are published. Each school gets many free copies for their own use.  Advisors have more information. See your school’s AppleSauce advisor.
Gr. 7 – 8 teacher Greater Lawrence Academic Bowl Each school selects approximately 8-10 7th and 8-10 8th graders to participate. School use their own criteria for selection, often involving teacher recommendations. Advisors have more information. See your school’s Academic Bowl Advisor.
Gr. 9 – 12 teacher ApplePi magazine We publish short stories, poetry, essays, reviews, photos, art work, musical compositions, etc. and make hundreds of copies available to each high school. See your school’s ApplePi teacher and student contacts.
Gr. 9 – 12 teacher Helping to produce GLEC’s three magazines as “Editorial Interns” ApplePi, AppleSauce and AppleSeed are produced with the active participation of enthusiastic high school Editorial Interns, who meet at the GLEC office in Methuen on Wednesday afternoons to produce each Apple magazine from mid September to early June. Gr. 9-12 art Teacher Collaborative Visual Arts Awards 5-7 students from each high school (usually juniors and/or seniors) are selected by the art departments to be honored in May with awards and a group show at Lawrence Heritage State Park Visitors Center gallery.
