Andover High and North Andover High link up in Spanish

Mr. Kolbe's Spanish class at AHS will be corresponding with Mr. McCann's Spanish class at NAHS over a three month period from November through January. Both classes are second year Spanish.  In all, more than 60 students will participate and exchange three rounds of letters, all in Spanish.   ¡Buena suerte, estudiantes de español!

Pen Pals in Spanish and French

The GLEC Enrichment Partnership has coordinated pen pal exchanges (in English) between elementary schools in the Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative since 1985.  We are expanding this service to Spanish and French in 2006-2007.   Teachers of Spanish and French, we want to help you improve the writing skills of your students while helping to foster friendship and understanding between these diverse communities. The signup period is from October 4 - October 25, 2006

Our role is to help you find another class for your students to write and to provide encouragement for your kids to keep writing. The match is done on a classroom-to-classroom basis. This is open to teachers from Andover H.S., Lawrence H.S., North Andover H.S., and Methuen H.S. The exchange is open to all years and levels.

The commitment is for your students to write at least three letters to their pen pals from either November through January or November through April. If you and your corresponding teachers want to write more frequently, all the better.  Those classes which complete the exchange will receive certificates and other forms of recognition. GLEC Fiesta Bowl

April 15, 2005

The annual GLEC Fiesta Bowl was held at North Andover High School on Friday April 15, 2005 in the Lecture Hall. Forty students, juniors and seniors from Spanish III and above, participated from Andover High School, Methuen High School and North Andover High School. Ms. Laura Erazo, NAHS Spanish teacher, hosted the activity, which allowed students who were studying Spanish as a foreign language to apply their knowledge in a variety of settings and to make new friends in the process. Activities included: ice breakers, making a team flag, drawing a picture solely from the description of an observer, scrabble multiplication, jeopardy, dancing the merengue and salsa, and original skits given random objects as props. Each team consisted of players from all three schools. Food was provided by Cafe Azteca. The winning team, Los Bandidas Verdes, won the tournament, with Las Chalupas and Los Increibles tying for second.

This tournament grew out of the habla! program, which was a a Spanish language immersion started by the GLEC Enrichment program in the 1980s. Lawrence High, Andover High and North Andover High have each hosted the tournament several times.
