Mission

IndependenceThe mission of Coastal Alternative Schools is to provide an alternative educational setting that challenges students in both the academic and social/emotional arenas, in working toward the goal of becoming responsible and contributing adults. It’s structure is designed to assist students in identifying those issues that interfere with academic success, social functioning and emotional maturity and subsequently develop strategies that promote healthier relationships with school, home and community.

School Philosophy

BelongingEvery person is born with the innate ability to become and actualized human being. Sometimes along the path to understanding of ourselves we become lost. This then is the tiem to find our own realities. To accept that we are neither the “dwarf of our fears nor the giant of our dreams”, but a human being. Therefore, we have taken upon ourselves, each and every one of us, the mission of doing all we can to be of help to one another. It will take much concern and guidance at each and every stepmaybe faltering at first, then steadier, and finally sure.

Our school dreams involve students making their way backback to being productive, contributing members of their communities. To have us live life as it should be lived. Facing reality, feeling hurt, feeling anger, feeling love, but more importantly, dealing with that hurt, anger, and love- regardless of how painful the changes may be.

MasteryWe can then share our way of life with the community, to develop understanding and sensitivity to life for their benefit, as well as ours.
