Collaborative Alternative School Products & Services

A core belief at the Collaborative Alternative School is that real world experiences are imperative for true learning to take place. Schools do not exist in isolation. They are part of a larger community of people that are interconnected in a multitude of ways. With this in mind, the Collaborative Alternative School has organized a number of student business ventures designed to provide our students with meaningful career skills.

CAS Culinary Program

culinary artsThe Culinary Arts Program is designed to engage students in a hands-on work setting which places a strong emphasis on employability skills. The program allows students the opportunity to explore possible career choices within the food service industry. Students are instructed in the importance of health and safety, nutrition, culinary procedures, cooking methods, cuisines and food service operations. In addition to producing school breakfast and lunches, the Culinary Program is available to cater local events.

carpentry programCAS Carpentry Program

The CAS Carpentry Program is designed to teach students basic carpentry skills. Students produce items such as birdhouses, bottle holders, and furniture. Each year the Carpentry Program uses it’s skills to help repair Camp Steppingstone, a camp for developmentally challenged students. In addition, the class prepares a holiday catalog with items to be auctioned off. All proceeds made from the auction go to maintain the program. Items prepared
