Overview

The Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative was organized in July 1974. It is a consortium of the school districts of Andover, Boxford, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Methuen, Middleton, North Andover, Topsfield and the Greater Lawrence Technical School. It is a public entity under the jurisdiction of its 10 member school committees, whose superintendents of schools comprise its governing board.

The Collaborative:

  • provides educational, vocational and therapeutic programs for mentally, emotionally and physically challenged children in the least restrictive, most normalized environment,
  • offers in-service training and other professional development activities to teachers and administrators of member districts,
  • assists districts in management services such as cooperative purchasing of natural gas, fuel oil, paper, pest control, electricity, and insurance.
  • coordinates intercommunity enrichment programs in the arts, recreation and other areas of education which address the social objective of bringing together children from diverse communities,
  • and provides special needs transportation services to students of member districts.

As a public educational service agency, the Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative exists to serve its member school districts whenever a regional approach might be effective in meeting their changing needs.
