Overview

The Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative was organized in July 1974. It is a consortium of the school districts of Andover, Boxford, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Methuen, Middleton, North Andover, Topsfield and the Greater Lawrence Technical School. It is a public entity under the jurisdiction of its 10 member school committees, whose superintendents of schools comprise its governing board.

The Collaborative:

provides educational, vocational and therapeutic programs for mentally, emotionally and physically challenged children in the least restrictive, most normalized environment,
offers in-service training and other professional development activities to teachers and administrators of member districts,
assists districts in management services such as cooperative purchasing of natural gas, fuel oil, paper, pest control, electricity, and insurance.
coordinates intercommunity enrichment programs in the arts, recreation and other areas of education which address the social objective of bringing together children from diverse communities,
and provides special needs transportation services to students of member districts.

As a public educational service agency, the Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative exists to serve its member school districts whenever a regional approach might be effective in meeting their changing needs.
